(1909-1993)  Once referred to by a friend as “South Carolina’s First Lady of Letters,” Elizabeth Boatwright Coker was the daughter of Purvis Jenkins Boatwright and Bessie Heard. She graduated from Converse College and married James Lide Coker III.  They had two children. 

Coker published nine novels in the genre of the historical romance of all periods of the southern and South Carolina cultural life.  She was inducted into the South Carolina Academy of Authors and was selected for membership in the South Carolina Hall of Fame. She is buried in Hartsville.
