William C. Westmoreland

(1914-2005) General William C. Westmoreland, born in Spartanburg, led the American troops during a pivotal time in the Vietnam War. He was Deputy Commander of Military Assistance Command, Vietnam (MACV) from 1964-1968 and Army Chief of Staff from 1968-1972.
