Gary Davis


Born in Clinton, SC, Gary Davis was a blind blues and gospel songwriter and innovative guitarist. He began as a street musician and helped to create the Piedmont style of music.

Idella Bodie passed away January 2, 2019 at the age of 93. She was a South Carolina native and authored 25 books for young readers throughout her career as a teacher.

The Charleston


The Charleston was a popular dance craze in the 1920s. It got its name from a song of the same name in a Broadway show called Runnin' Wild. The composer said he was inspired by the music of the dockworkers in Charleston.
