The Carolina Shag
The Carolina Shag is a form of swing dancing that became popular in the 1940s on the North and South Carolina coast. The shag continues to be popular and is usually danced to rhythm and blues music known as "beach music."

Square Dancing became the official State Folk Dance in 1994. In square dancing, the instructions are called out to the dancers during the dance.
