Yankees (n)
- the name Southerners used for Americans who lived in the northern states during the American Civil War
Yemassee Uprising (n)
- warfare with the Yamasee and later the Creek Indians. The war started in 1715 and destroyed much of the colony of South Carolina.

- a farmer who grew crops and raised animals to feed himself and his family. He did not produce cash crops.
